One more Christmas irrit

The other thing that irks me at Christmas (and after this I will not mention Christmas irrits again) is when radio stations include the Wham song “Last Christmas” in their Christmas song programming.  And singers insist in singing it at various Carols by Candlelight in the 'burbs.

Have a good listen to the lyrics.  Apart from the ‘Last Christmas’ bit in the chorus, there is no mention of anything remotely Christmassy.  There is one bit when George Michael sings/whispers a fairly passive aggressive and hostile “Happy Christmas” but aside from that no snow, Santa, tinsel, bells, Christmas trees, yuletide, mistletoe and only metaphoric references to gifts.

Boiled down, it's got nothing to do with Christmas, it’s all just a big sulk about being dumped.  I imagine being dumped at Christmas sucks more than being dumped at other times of the year...it can't go unnoticed also that in this song, the dumpee appears to have been nursing this grudge for a full twelve months.  Really, somebody that clingy and whingy probably had it coming…

Yours observantly
